Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland and Justin Langer speak to the media during a press conference on May 3, 2018 in Melbourne, Australia. Langer has been appointed the Team Head Coach of the Australian men's cricket tea, replacing Darren Lehmann who resigned in the wake of the ball tampering scandal.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has unloaded on Cricket Australia's handling of Justin Langer's coaching situation.

Langer's future has been up in the air for the entire summer despite guiding Australia to the nation's first ever T20 World Cup victory, before following it up by dismantling England in the Ashes to the tune of 4-0.

Support for Langer has been frosty within Cricket Australia and the playing group however, with no guarantee his contract will be extended beyond the end of the upcoming Pakistan tour.

Rumours of a meeting earlier this week where Langer was possibly asked to re-apply for the role were squashed by Cricket Australia, but the lack of support from cheif executive Nick Hockley continues to be telling.

Former captain Clarke, speaking on Sky Sports Radio said however that whichever way it goes, the decision has to be made ASAP, with it becoming "out of control."

“He has done such a good job,” Clarke said.

“This is splashed all over the media and there is inside gossip. You pretty much have exactly what happened in the meeting with Cricket Australia. It’s there for everyone to read. How does that happen? How can that not stay private? It is out of control. I don’t know what side it’s come from, how it’s got out or why it’s got out – I have a fair idea – either way, this is not helping anyone.”

“It’s not great for Lang and certainly not great for Cricket Australia. So hopefully whatever is going to go down, goes down ASAP.

“If Lang is going to resign, do it ASAP. If Cricket Australia is going to make him reapply for his job and he doesn’t want to do that so he quits, do that ASAP. If they are going to offer him a contract, let’s get this done. It’s horrible at the moment.

“We’ve just had an awesome summer, the T20 World Cup … And now we are reading this.”

It's understood Cricket Australia will hold more meetings this week as they look to determine Langer's future.
